Cape Cod Marine Wind Speed Indicator

Item Details

A new-in-box Cape Cod Wind Speed Indicator (a three-cup anemometer). An anemometer is a device for measuring wind speed. The three-cup version of the anemometer was originally developed by the Canadian scientist John Patterson in 1926. According to the manufacturer’s website, this device can be mounted to a boat mast or a roof top to keep track of the current wind speed. It includes the spinning cup wheel, a metal rod and attachment for holding the wheel up from a boat mast or rooftop, and a long cable for connecting the wheel to the indicator. The indicator has a silver face with a ruled indicator measuring wind speed in Miles Per Hour and a list of the official classifications of wind speeds. The bottom of the face reads ‘Cape Cod Wind and Weather Indicators—Harwich Port, Cape Cod, Mass, U.S.A.’ The brass frame has holes for wall mounting. This item was originally sold by Chatham Jewelers of Chatham, MA.
