19th-Century Northern European Painted Cabinet

Item Details

An unusual northern European painted pine cabinet, having a lift-off top to an interior with seven framed racks and a glass paneled, sliding cover tray. The narrow ends have a door, as each of the four sides have decorative scalloped panels, with wire and straw thatched screens over each opening. Use unknown, possibly used for drying herbs or salted cod. The case is well constructed with mortised, tenoned and pegged joinery. Has original red paint with white border detail around vented openings. Circa 1880.
