1850 Meeks Brothers Gothic Revival Armchair
Item Details
An antique Meeks Brothers Gothic Revival armchair. The chair is constructed out of mahogany, circa 1850. The elaborate back of the chair resembles a cathedral with a pierced floral motif, three steeples, and a center quatrefoil. The back is flanked by carved spirals posts with finial. The arm rests extends from the carved spiral posts. They are padded and contain a cannon ball finial at the end, supported by the front carved spiraled legs. The seat is square and padded with striped damask fabric. Chair stands on four spiral legs with casters at the end. Jospeh Meeks founded J & J.W. Meeks in 1797 (Massachusetts). They closed their doors in 1868.
