Antique Wall Mount Secretary Desk

An antique wall-mounted secretary desk, circa 1887. The desk was manufactured in cherry by the Cortland Desk Company, Limited as ‘The Celebrated Economy Wall Desk.’ This unusual wall-mounted secretary organizer has a split pediment at the top with carved vine and floral detail, with two brackets for wall mounting. Each end has a finial, leading to the inset back panel at the top. To the sides are scroll carved, openwork sides and a raised insert above a shelf. Below the shelf is a carved apron, above another shelf with a fan and scroll carved back. The central section is a three panel raised door with an escutcheon and key hole (key is present) labeled, ‘Cortland Desk Co. Lim, Feb 8 87, Cortland, NY.’ Behind the door is a storage and organization compartment with cubby holes, horizontal slots and vertical slots; a drawer that does not appear to be original sits above a storage compartment. A panel in front of the cubby holes folds down to reveal a writing surface. The base features a extended apron with vine and floral carved detail. Condition
- to fair. The inside is missing two drawers and there is wear to the finish. The front moulding is missing on a drawer. Condition is consistent with age and use.
