Item Details
An antique late 19th century original oil painting on academy board by an anonymous artist. The skillfully painted nautical image echoes the work of Frank Schneider, a marine painter of same era, in composition and subject. The image depicts a masted wooden ship being tossed on the horizon of an agitated sea, a single portlight shines red from below the deck, as swirling clouds in the sky make way for the sun to shine through. This painting is not signed, mounted in a fine antique beveled wood frame with gesso cast scrolled applique and gold leaf finish.
Condition
- light abrasions on texture of academy board throughout painting, visible in sea area. Finish of frame is worn on applique, with light scratches and fine cracks throughout coving. Some discoloration throughout coving, mostly on bottom half.
