Rare Limited Edition 1950 Walter Bodmer Woodblock "Spotted Bull"
Item Details
A rare 1950 limited edition woodblock print on paper by well-listed Swiss-German sculptor and painter Walter Bodmer (1903-1973), titled Spotted Bull. This representational image is a rare anomaly in Bodmer’s usually highly abstracted and Cubist body of work. He was an important artist in Allianz — a Swiss art group focused on the theory of Swiss architect Max Bill (1908-1994) that began in 1937. The print depicts a gestural image of a bull, printed in black, navy blue, and lime green. It is signed and numbered 94/200 in pencil in the lower margin. Extensive information about the artist is hand-written in ink on the verso. A on the verso says the piece was framed by the Whyte Gallery in Washington D.C., and the hand-written note claims it was purchased there as well. The print is double-matted in navy blue and mint green, and is presented behind glass in a thin white wooden frame. More information about the artist can be found under Related Links.
