Antique Chromolithograph Icon of Jesus Christ
Item Details
An antique chromolithograph on thick, textured paper from the very early 20th century, depicting Jesus Christ. In this image, a bright halo shines around Jesus’ head. His hands are held in the position of benediction, meaning three fingers point up (representing the Trinity) and two fingers remain down (representing Jesus’ two natures — divine and human). Across Jesus’ chest, the symbol of the Sacred Heart is emblazoned. This stylized depiction of Jesus’ heart is a popular image in Christian art, and is a symbol to which many Catholics direct their prayers and devotions. Holes can be seen in Jesus’ hands from where he was hung on the cross. The print is matted in brown, and is presented behind glass in a beautiful oval gilt frame. A wire is attached to the verso of the piece for hanging.
Condition
-water damages across edges of matting. Light surface damage across the frame.
