Pair of Victorian Chairs Featuring Petit Point Needlework

Item Details

A pair of Victorian chairs featuring petit point needlework, one in the Renaissance Revival style and one in the earlier Rococo Revival style. The burgundy chair is in the Renaissance Revival style, circa 1850, having an ornate, arched top with a pediment and fan with scrollwork carving to either side, and a central circular medallion on an upholstered balloon back. The back has a detail floral pattern in petit point with flower blossoms, vines and leaves, matching the needlework on the upholstered seat. The arm stiles are detailed scroll work attached to the seat frame. The front rail of the chair has a scroll detail; it has slightly splayed, straight back legs and turned, trumpet legs with casters to the front. The black chair is in a Rococo Revival style, circa 1840, with a balloon back, leaf, scroll, and button carving on the crest, and cabriole legs. It has a rose and leaf wreath in petit point to the front of the upper back of the chair.
