Antique Eastlake Walnut Marble Top Washstand
Item Details
An antique Eastlake walnut washstand with a red marble top. The stand has a lovely red marbled top with white and grey striations throughout. It has straight back and sides, each with inset panels. Three of the side panel insets have been replaced with plywood. The stand has two drawers, each with horizontal carved line detail, decorative brass bale pull handles, and Knapp joinery, also called "scallop and dowel". Charles Knapp pioneered these machined joins in the 1860s, but by 1900 they were no longer being used. Beneath the drawers are two paneled, hinged doors which swing outward to reveal a storage compartment; the base of the interior compartment has been replaced with plywood. The doors lock; the key is present.
Condition
Good to fair; several of the inset panels and the interior base panels have been replaced with raw plywood. The marble top is detached and needs to be re-secured. Wear is consistent with use and age.
