A 19th century copy of Hogarth’s Chairing the Members from ‘Four Prints of an Election,’ 1758. Antique oil painting depicts the successful Tory candidates triumphantly led and carried through the streets. Led by a blind fiddler and surrounded by chaos, the winner is about to fall as one of the crowd members has hit one of his bearers in the head. Antique allegorical oil painting of British politics. House in a giltwood period frame.

Condition

Painting has been relined but has original tacks and stretchers. A few repairs evident only under a black light.
