Selection of Bybee Pottery Home Decor

Item Details

A collection of Bybee Pottery home decor items. Bybee Pottery is one of the oldest potteries in the United States, dating its founding to 1809 in Madison County, Kentucky. This folksy and rustic pottery has been made in the same manner for hundred of years, either hand thrown on kick-wheels or hand-built. It it rumored that once it was a requirement that aspiring potters had to act as an apprentice for twelve years before being allowed to throw ware for sale. Sadly, Bybee has suspended its operations at the present time. This collection represents its wonderful blue spongeware; blue underglaze sponge applied to white stoneware, then clear glazed. The selection includes a thrown and altered basket with braided handle, two candle holders, a clever covered votive with handle, lovely milk pitcher, braided trivet, tall fluted planter with water catch, and small lidded crock.
