Assortment of Antique German Books
Item Details
An assortment of antique German-language books featuring two books published in Cincinnati (reflecting the strong historical presence of German immigrant communities in EBTH’s hometown), with two English-language Bibles printed for the German Reformed Church.
This lot features an 1893 edition of Primitives Südamerika [Primitive South America] (Cincinnati: Jennings & Graham 1893), with a gilt lettered cover and a number of plates, and an 1883 edition of Don Rom nach Tzion [From Rome to Zion] by A. Breunig (Cincinnati: Walden and Stowe) with a green cloth cover tooled with black paint and gilded devices, and with brightly gilt page edges.
The lot also includes two English language miniature Bibles: an 1846 pocket Bible printed at the publication office of the German Reform Church in Chambersburg, PA and another miniature Bible printed in New York in 1867 by the American Bible Society with gilt edged pages.
Condition
- The 1846 miniature Bible shows some wear.
- Both Bibles show significant wear.
- The two German-language books show only light rubbing, but are otherwise Fine.

The listed measurement is of Primitives Südamerika Each of the two miniature Bibles is 3.1 × 5 × 1.5. Don Rom nach Tzion is 5 × 6.75 × 1.
