Antique Arlent Edwards Mezzotint After "The Frankland Sisters"

A 1900 colored mezzotint print by English printer Samuel Arlent Edwards (1862-1938) after the 1795 painting The Frankland Sisters by British painter John Hoppner (1758-1810). The circular image depicts two sisters with curly blond hair seated on a grassy hill. They are holding a large red book and a small dog is cuddled at their feet. Green trees and shadowy mountains fill the area behind the sisters. The words ‘Copyright 1900 by S. Arlent Edwards, Williamsburg, NY’ are printed along the lower margin. An indecipherable phrase and the artist’s signature are written in pencil in the lower right corner. This vibrant print is matted in tan, brown, gilt, and green stripes, and is presented behind glass in a simple gilt frame. A wire is attached to the verso for hanging, along with a sticker from The Milch Galleries identifying the piece.
Condition
-consistent with age. Yellowing and foxing across the paper. Light water damage on edges of mat. Light scratching on frame. Area of sticky accretion on lower right corner of glass.
