A collection of masterpieces of French literature, each published in the late 20th century in a uniquely decorated full leather Collector’s Edition by Easton Press. Each volume has raised bands on its spine, and each has leather boards and spine tooled with a distinctive ornate gilded decoration inspired by the contents of the book. This group includes The Tales of Guy de Maupassant (illustrated from watercolor paintings by Gunter Böhmer; with translations by Lafcadio Hearn and others; introduction by Justin O’Brien), Two Plays by Molière (Tartuffe and The Would-Be Gentleman; translated by H. Baker and J. Miller with introduction by Henri Peyre and illustrations by Serge Ivanoff), The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas (illustrated by Edy Legrand), The Red and the Black by Stendhal (translated by C.K. Scott-Moncrieff; introduction by Hamilton Basso; illustrated by Rafaello Busoni), and Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert (translated by J. Lewis May with introduction by Jacques De Lacretelle, and illustrations by Pierre Brissaud engraved by Theo Schmied.)

Condition

- There is paint residue visible on the spine of Madame Bovary.
