RCA Victor Radio-Phonograph Console by Victrola Model 612V3

Item Details

An RCA Victor Model 612V3 combination radio-phonograph console, circa 1950. The console housing is made of mahogany with grooved corners and panels down the sides of the audio screen doors, and gadrooning along the top and bottom, with the curved table legs leaving a rounded space in between. The combination radio-phonograph unit is housed in the upper compartment with its top-lowering audio screen door. The unit’s control panel features knobs for tuning, mode selection, volume, and turning on and off the power. (The available modes are Standard Broadcast Band, Short Wave Band, Frequency Modulation Band, and the Television Position for use with a television attachment.) There are also knobs for modulating the bass and treble of the speakers, as well as a group of eight push buttons for setting up favorite channels. The unit rolls out on a track in the back of top-lowering audio screen door, which serves it as a shelf. This console comes with an envelope containing an instruction manual, lists of old station call letters, and a promotional pamphlet for the New York Times radio stations. The instruction manual explains how to install the device and use its control panel. – The radio was plugged in and the lights turn on. The speakers make normal tuning noises when the knobs are turned. Some problem (perhaps with the antenna) is preventing the device from picking up broadcast radio. The phonograph function of the radio device has not been tested.
