An original 1880 watercolor painting by well-listed British artist and illustrator William Henry Charles Groome (1854-1913), signed to the lower right. The well executed piece depicts the explorer, writer and poet Sir Walter Raleigh pulling his cloak out for Elizabeth I so that her feet do not get dirty. This act became famous after it showed him favor at court, granting him generous monopolies as well as a large estate in Ireland. The painting is presented behind glass and mat in a gold tone frame.
