Antique Barometer
Item Details
An incredible English Regency Uriah Barns barometer, late 18th century. The piece is a traditional wheel barometer, in mahogany with holly string inlay, a swan neck pediment with urn finial. The silvered thermometer and barometer plates are hand engraved and inked, featuring inscriptions alongside the numbers that read, in ascending order, ‘Freezing, Temperate, Sum Heat, Blood Heat.’ The back is gouged with the named Gould alongside the year 1798, and also bears a strange label from Uriah Barns working optician and spectacle maker. This is a very interesting piece full of intrigue. If you’re in need of a barometer, this is the one. Please note that the piece has an open cylinder in the back with mercury and must be kept upright, may not be able to be shipped, as a result.
