Hiroshige Offset Lithography Reproduction

Item Details

A photo offset lithography lithography print reproduction of one of the greatest Japanese Ukiyo-e woodcuts ever produced by one of the greatest masters ever to have lived. This print is entitled ‘Sudden shower over Shin-Ōhashi bridge and Atake,’ and was completed in circa 1857. This print is considered the masterpiece of this series and compares in its appeal with another of Hiroshige’s most famous landscapes, Shono, in ‘The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido,’ which also depicts escape from a sudden rain. This print, along with the view of the Kameido plum tree (print 30 from the series), were copied in oil by Vincent van Gogh. This faithful reproduction is framed in a simple black wooden frame. The verso features text in English and Hebrew that dates the reproduction to 1976 where it was featured in a show of Hiroshige prints at The Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art 89 Hanassi Ave. Haifa.

Condition

Fair-Good, the facade of this piece is in great condition aside from the print being somewhat wavy in the frame. The verso however exhibits a frame backing that’s in disrepair.
