Victorian Barber Chair

Item Details

A Victorian barber chair, primitive style with painted wood. The chair has black upholstery on the back, seat and armrests, and a square, slightly curved back with a straight top rail. The seat rests on a framework of wood with a steel rod affixed to the chair back. This rod can be manipulated into holes on the side of the seat to recline the seat backward. Beneath the seat is an adjustable foot rest in a crate construction style, and below that is another footrest. The side supports for the base are constructed in a triangular shape with stretchers. A unique item.

Condition

- to fair. The leather is very worn and is pulling away from the nailheads. Missing the headrest. There is finish loss, but the piece could be refreshed with restoration.
