1754 Map of Colonial America
Item Details
A rare 1754 map titled An Accurate Map of the English Colonies in North America bordering on the River Ohio. It depicts what is now the eastern United States, divided into colonies (with hand-colored outlines), with their borders extending west and north into what was then actually French territory. The sparsely settled territory beyond the Appalachian Mountains (or the ‘Apalachy Mountains’ on this map) is somewhat inaccurate, with the Ohio River (also labelled with the early alternate names ‘Bell River’ and ‘Allegany River’) depicted as running almost straight northeast-southwest, for example. The map is matted in off-white paper, and framed under glass in a wood frame.
Condition
- minor creases and paper discoloration to the map, but overall very good for its age.
