A late 18th-century miniature erotic painting of ‘Susanna and the Elders’, in a carved beech wood case, dated 1798 and having chip carved borders. The painting is oil-on-hide, depicting two male figures with a nude female figure, taking advantage of her beauty. As the story goes, Book of Daniel, chapter 13; a fair Hebrew wife named Susanna was falsely accused of promiscuity by two lustful elders, after discovering her bathing in her garden. After the accusers told differing descriptions of the tree the incident took under, they were put to death and virtue triumphed.
