Collection of Hand-Painted and Transferware Bowls

A collection of six hand-painted and transferware serving bowls. The collection includes a colorful Imari style Japanese bowl with detailed hand-painted designs of flowers, butterflies, abstracts and leaves in bright blue, red, orange, green and red on a white porcelain ground; it is unmarked. Another selection is a charming alpine-themed bowl with a hand-painted image of a dancing couple in Alpine garb, set in a wreath of yellow and pink florals and leaves. It appears to be marked ‘NRT Alpine Ironstone’. Also included is a formal serving bowl by Rembrandt, pattern REM-3, made in Japan and marked to the base, with a delicate red border and transferware motifs of small flowers and leaves; marked to the base. A lovely, unmarked, hand-painted white glazed bowl with hand-painted designs of a blackbird and vibrant pink, blue and orange flowers, berries and leaves is featured along with an Edwin M. Knowles serving bowl with a transferware design, a gold-toned rim and bunches of pink roses. Marked to the base, ‘Edwin M. Knowles China CO. 29-2-10’. A Limoges Haviland serving bowl, marked to the base, with a gold-tone rim and an orange trefoil design and arabesques of yellow flowers and leaves completes the collection.
Condition
- to fair. Some crazing of the glazes. Wear is consistent with age and use.
