A folk art carved apple sculpture by Isadore ‘Shep’ Shapiro (American, c.1914-1993). This piece depicts an iconic man’s head sporting a tam o’shanter and smoking a pipe. It is mounted on an organic wood base. The sculpture is signed to the bottom. Shep Shapiro of Highland Park, Illinois specialized in apple carvings. He developed the epoxy resin coating to preserve his apple sculptures and marketed them nationally.
