Antique Bowie Knife with Leather Sheath
Item Details
An antique Bowie knife with leather sheath. The Bowie knife has a steel blade and dark horn handle, with a fitted dark brown leather sheath with joined side seam. The Bowie knife is a true American weapon, developed in 1827 by a plantation owner named Rezin Pleasant Bowie, who after unsuccessfully defending himself against a bull attack, created the large single-edged knife. Jim Bowie used this knife in a legendary fight along the Mississippi River, and later during the Alamo Siege, Bowie, although sick in bed, was said to have defended himself with his pistols, a broken rifle and his famous knife before being killed.
