Circa 1867 C&LC Ives Triple Decker Clock with Original Movement
Item Details
A circa 1867 C & LC Ives triple decker clock in a carved Mahogany case with two reverse painted glass panels. The wonderful eight day time and strike antique clock is weight driven having the original movement. Also, the original paper label affixed to the inside cabinet indicates the clock was sold through Davis & Barber in Bristol, Connecticut. The clock has full columns at both sides carved in a floral pattern, a carved scroll and fruit crown and ball feet. The painted wood dial in cream and gold has Arabic numerals, steel hands and faint handwriting at the top edge that appears to read ‘Daniel W Bates, 1867’ (Daniel Bates operated a clock/repair business in Washington on Pennsylvania Ave in the later half of the 1800’s). Both reverse painted panels illustrate foliate branches with white daisies. The key is present as are the keys to both glass doors.
Condition
The clock is in very good antique condition, the reverse painted panels appear to be original or at least very old. The same holds true for the wooden dial which has paint loss but lends to the character of the clock. When wound, the clock was found to be working however accuracy was not recorded. The second hand is a bit loose.
