A Circa 1830 Seth Thomas "Pillar and Splat" Shelf Clock
Item Details
A circa 1830 Seth Thomas ‘Pillar and Splat’ shelf clock in a lovely grained Mahogany cabinet, made and sold in Plymouth, Connecticut. The cabinet has the original stencil work in gold at the splat and half pillars, fabulous carved paw feet and the remnants of the old label are affixed to the inside of the cabinet. The reverse painting at the bottom half of the door is also original to illustrate a grand white residence and estate grounds and the dial has painted fruit at the corners with Arabic numerals. The two weight driven wooden movement strikes at the hour. All appear to be original.
Condition
The clock shows appropriate wear at the dial indicating it to be original as does the slight paint loss to the reverse painted glass panel. Otherwise the clock is in very good in appearance. The clock will need to be serviced, the pendulum would not continue to move.
