Katsushika Hokuasi "Hokusai Manga" Woodblock Print

An 1828 woodblock print from the Hokusai Manga: Transmitting the Spirit and Revealing the Form of Things: Random Drawings of Hokusai series, volume II, by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1879). Hokuasi was a well-known ukiyo-e painter and printer during the Edo period, but as well an expert in Chinese art. He is most famously recognized for The Great Wave off Kanagawa woodblock print. He created several volumes of the Hokusai Manga, featuring daily life scenes and wildlife studies. This color woodblock is from the second volume, depicting the study of daily life scenes of Japanese males, such as cooking, sleeping and wrestling. The print is set in a single cream mat and presented in a black laminate and glass plated frame. Labelled to verso.
