"Drive," "Lucky Forward" and "Armor Command" WWII Patton Vintage Books
Item Details
A group of three octavo-sized volumes pertaining to Patton and to armored combat in WWII. The first is entitled ‘Drive,’ by Col. Charles R. Codman, and aide-de-camp to General George S. Patton, Jr. Published Boston/Toronto: Atlantic Monthly Press, 1957 stated first edition, 335 pp. Bound in light blue linen, gilt spine, and embossed Atlantic emblem to front cover, with original printed dust jacket. Next is ‘Lucky Forward: The History of Patton’s Third U.S. Army,’ by Col. Robert S. Allen. Published New York: The Vanguard Press, Inc., 1947 presumed first edition, 424 pp. with index. Bound in dark blue cloth with silver lettering to spine and an embossed A Third Army emblem to front cover. Includes original dust jacket. Finally, a small book by Brigadier General Paul McDonald Robinett, ‘Armor Command,’ published McGregor & Werner, Inc., 1958, presumed first edition, 252 pp. Bound in a flexible red cloth with black lettering and no dust jacket.
Condition
The dust jackets present on two of the volumes (other does not have one) are worn, with tears and soiling. Front board on “Lucky Forward” is pitted, and there are pencil markings to front endpapers on printed map. “Drive” has light shelf wear to cloth binding, with pencil markings on front flyleaf. “Armor Command” has a flexible cloth binding that is soiled to back board, and there is soiling to front and back endpapers (back pastedown is coming loose – may be light water damage/slight warping to a few back pages), with pencil markings on dedication page.
