The two-volume set entitled ‘Handbook of American Indians North of Mexico,’ edited by Frederick Webb Hodge. Published: New York: Pageant Books, Inc., 1959, 972 pp. Vol. I, and 1221 pp. Vol. II. including Bibliography and a section called Synonymy. Bound in orange cloth with black title band to spine. This is Bulletin 30 of the Smithsonian Institution’s Bureau of American Ethnology. It is basically an interesting encyclopedia, in alphabetical order, of terms relating to the languages, cultures, and histories of the various native peoples in the region. Contains small black and white illustrations.
Condition
Slipcase is torn and dirty, but these large volumes have solid bindings, with some scuffing and edgewear to cloth, and a small ink stain to front board Vol. II.
