An original still life oil painting by John E. Weis (American, 1892 – 1962). This painting on canvas depicts a red cloth draped over a chair with a porcelain figurine of Madonna and Child, marked Saint Vienge. Born in Indiana, Weis is a renowned painter of regional Ohio landscape scenes, still life paintings, and portraits. He attended the Cincinnati Art Academy as a student and later taught at the institution for thirty-eight years. Art is signed J. E. Weis on the lower right and is mounted in a bronze tone wood frame.
