An original oil portrait painting titled Portrait Of A Young Woman by Thomas Buchanan Read (American, 1822-1872). Born in Pennsylvania, Reed is a talented portrait artist and poet, who painted portraits of Abraham Lincoln, and fellow poets such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Alfred Tennyson, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. His work is currently displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum.This particular oil on canvas, depicts a serene young woman with a hint of a smile, shown with coiffed hair and a lace edged gown. It is signed by artist T.B. Read 1859, over the left shoulder of the woman in the portrait.
