19th Century French Figural Mystery Clock on Alabaster Base
Item Details
A 19th century French figural conical pendulum mystery clock to illustrate a woman in fully draped garments holding a ball pendulum from a silk suspension atop an ornate alabaster base with gold mounts. The original brass works are stamped ‘Daille de Bronze’, a medal awarded in 1860 and 1869 to Samuel Marti who was a renown French clock maker in the 19th century. The classical figure stands holding an urn in her right hand and the ball pendulum studded with stars. The clock has applied Roman hour numerals and is housed in the alabaster base with an eight day spring driven movement having a strike at the half hour. Paw feet at the corners elevates the base with scrolled handles at each side and the portrait of a bearded king at the bottom center.
Condition
The clock is very good to good in appearance. The alabaster base has a few scratches at the sides where the applied handles are a bit loose and have rotated in the past. The movement winds smoothly and chimes but will not run or keep time.
