L. Curtis Girandole Banjo Clock by Ted Burleigh, Jr.
Item Details
An extraordinary reproduction on an original Lemuel Curtis girandole banjo clock bench made by renown clock maker Ted Burleigh, Jr. of Winchester, Mass. The clock is in a Mahogany case with a reverse glass painting at the cabinet illustrating two women holding a shield and the American flag, masted ships at sea are in the background. The reverse painting is signed ‘FD Burleigh’ (Ted’s Wife) and dated 1989. The throat of the clock is painted on glass as well and states ‘L.Curtis Patent’ in the banner and scrolled brass rails at each side. There are beaded edges at top and bottom with a gold gilt eagle as the finial and scrolled leaves at the base. The eight day clock is weight driven with a brass pendulum, the dial has Arabic numerals and is labeled ‘L.Curtis, Patent’. The key is present and the clock maker’s card is tucked inside the case.
Condition
The clock is in excellent condition appearance wise and was tested to be working. The eagle finial has has a repair at the wing. Time accuracy and duration was not recorded.
