Original Jack Meanwell Abstract Expressionist Still Life of Fruit
Item Details
An Abstract Expressionist watercolor painting depicting fruit on paper by well-listed Cincinnati artist Jack Meanwell (1919 – 2005). Wide, visible, alla prima brushwork composes a still life of an eggplant, pears, and an orange pumpkin. Signed by Meanwell in paint to the lower margin. This painting is unframed, presented behind white mat.
An instructor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for over 25 years, Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is certainly comparable in many respects to Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell – Battle of the Abstract Expressionists”.
