1902 "Historic Highways of America" Archer Butler Hulbert 16 Vols

The complete 16 volume set by Archer Butler Hulbert entitled Historic Highways of America. Published in Cleveland by The Arthur H. Clark Company, 1902-05. Bound in a textured blue cloth with gilt lettering to spines and gilt top page edges. Volume 16 contains index. Volumes illustrated sparingly with black-and-white photographic plates. This set was at one time owned by Ralph Emerson Twitchell who was heavily involved in the politics of New Mexico at the turn of the century and was a historian of the early Spanish history of the region. Each volume in this set bears his bookplate.
Condition
Books are sturdy and solid for their age. Bindings intact and no signs of foxing; cloth bears some scratches and wear to edges and corners. Text appears to be free of markings, with one penciled mark to Volume 1 flyleaf upper corner. Pages deckled and some seem to have been cut imprecisely. Each volume bears a bookplate to front pastedown, and a small numbered tag commencing with 1221 in Volume 1 and ending with 1236 in Volume 16.
