Scottish Regimental Dirk and Targe
Item Details
A vintage to antique Scottish Regimental dirk and ceremonial targe. The dirk, which bears the insignia of the Highland Light Infantry, features a finely comb-carved bogwood handle, embellished with brass tacks, the pommel of which features a faceted amber glass stone, encircled by a band of gold tone metal embossed with a thistle motif. The blade is stamped steel. The leather-wrapped scabbard, is similarly decorated, with gold tone ferrules, decorated with thistle designs, only one of the two additional implements being present. The Highland Light Infantry was in the service of the British crown from 1881-1959. The targe, a small shield, likely of ceremonial use, is leather wrapped wood, decorated with brass tacks, with a brass boss at center, the tacks set in a stylized foliate-linear motif.
Condition
As noted, one of the implements from the dirk scabbard is missing, the present piece is missing its stone.
