An original watercolor titled Birch Trees by artist Paul Ashbrook (American 1867-1949). A painter, etcher and illustrator, Ashbrook was a leading figue in early 20th century Cincinnati art circles. During his early career he painted under the name Paul Von Eschenbach, later changing it to Ashbrook. Born in New York, he started his career as an illustrator, continuing during a later move to Cincinnati. He studied a the Cincinnati Art Academy under Frank Duveneck and later taught at the same academy during the 1920s. This serene landscape includes a linen mat and is mounted under glass in a gold tone ribbed frame.
