A pair of porcelain M.I. Hummel figurines: Chimney Sweep and_ School Girl_. Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (German, 1909-1946) was a nun and noted artist. Her popular paintings of children were famously translated into figurines by the German porcelain company Goebel. One of these figurines depicts a young boy holding a black ladder. He is marked ‘12 – 2/0 – Goebel – W. Germany’. The girl is wearing pigtails with bows and a satchel on her back. She is marked with the decorator’s written initials and ‘81 2/0 Goebel W. Germany’.
