A fascinating three-volume set consisting of the two-volume ‘Appletons’ Cyclopaedia of Applied Mechanics: A Dictionary of Mechanical Engineering and the Mechanical Arts’ which is ‘Illustrated with Nearly Five Thousand Engravings.’ Edited by Park Benjamin, PhD, LL.B. Each has a publication date of 1886, with a copyright of 1880. Vol. I contains 960 pages, covering the letters A-G; Vol. II contains 959 pages. The third supplemental volume is entitled ‘Modern Mechanism: Exhibiting the latest progress in machines, motors, and the transmission of power’ edited by Park Benjamin, LL.B., PhD. Published New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1892, with a copyright date of 1892. These volumes have leather bindings with marbled endpapers and page edges.
Condition
Boards loose and leather on spine is pulling up at edges on spine and on edges of boards, which are scratched and stained in spots. Stamps of a prior owner and pencil markings on front and back blank white pages. Otherwise, textblock solid and secure.
