Antique Copper and Brass Fire Extinguisher

Item Details

A copper canister ‘Kontrol’ fire extinguisher produced by Stempel Fire Extinguisher Mfg Co. The product type and company information is displayed on a brass plate on the front of the extinguisher. Denoted on one of the three brass placards is that this fire extinguisher is a soda-acid type consisting of sodium bicarbonate and sulfiric acid to force pressurized water out of the spout. This extinguisher type became outmoded quickly in the early 20th century when a new foam-producing chemical mixture was created for fire extinguishers .The item was manufactured in St. Louis which is also noted on the center brass placard.
