Walrus Oosik and Ivory Sculpture

Item Details

A baculum or walrus oosik, baleen and walrus ivory sculpture. The baculum or penis bone is not fossilized, it is from a walrus hunted legally by Eskimo people, known as an Oosik. To the tip and end of the piece are the intricately carved ivory heads of an eagle and a polar bear, suspended and attached to a wood base.

The lot also includes a paper pamphlet with a humorous ditty about the Walrus Oosik.
