Circa 1880 French Gilt Bronze Ormolu Porcelain Foo Dogs Clock

A circa 1880 French gilt bronze ormolu and porcelain Chinoiserie mantel clock. This magnificent piece features turquoise enameled flowers, one with a rhinestone center and gilt ormolu stems to the top of the clock face and intertwined with the gilt bronze stem, nicely framing the backside of the foo dogs. The clock has a turquoise porcelain case, brass frame to the glass front, white porcelain face with black Arabic numerals and intricate gold tone openwork hands; a lion head pendulum is attached to the underside. The male and female turquoise glaze pottery foo dogs are attached to a gilt bronze base with embossed decoration. His paw is resting atop an amethyst hued glass orb. The included key did turn the mechanisms, but the clock is otherwise untested. No markings were found to the underside or to the workings of the clock.
