19th Century European Hand Scroll of Carved Ivory and Bone
Item Details
A 19th Century European hand scroll made of carved ivory and bone. This cylindrical ivory scroll case has a long opening to emit an inner scroll. Delicately traced floral designs run full-length on either side of the scroll. A cylindrical pull with a small ivory toggle is attached by two metal links. The scroll is topped by a round disk carved in stylized petals and a separate fluted dome-shaped knob. The underside of the scroll is another disc carved into stylized petals. The handle is is turned bone in a pattern of rings terminating in a small knob. The scroll has text in magenta and black upon vellum.
