Rare 1949 Atomic Robot Man Tin Toy Robot
Item Details
A wonderful rare example of one of the oldest tin type toy robots made, this is the 1949 Atomic Robot Man, made in Japan. Part of General MacArthur’s plan for Japan’s industrial restoration after WWII, this small tin robot features a simple boxy and primitive design, so common of the era, with a body made from basic geometric shapes stacked to roughly approximate a man and adorned with decal gauges and tiny rivets. A working key wound mechanism pin walking toy, with stop and go lever to the front, and his die-cast arms wiggle at the shoulder joint as he slowly ambles from side to side on his straight legs. Marked simply ‘Japan’ to back left body panel. In working condition.
