A sculpture by Chaim Gross of the a rocking mother and child. Austrian-born Chaim Gross (1904-1991) is a highly celebrated 20th Century sculptor. His works can be seen in all major museums and at the Chaim Gross Studio Museum in New York, along with having several books published about his life and his work. This beautiful cast bronze sculpture of a Mother on a rocking stool holding a child on her knees. Styled in fluid lines without refined details. The nude mother sits balanced on the rocking stool with her legs crossed, outstretched and slightly flexed. Her torso is tipped backward for balance and her pony-tailed head and neck are thrust slightly forward. Her right arm is bent at the elbow, her left arm supports the child who is poised on the bend of her Mother’s knee. She is curved, chubby and has all her limbs in motion and is also pony-tailed. Base consists of the curve slab of the rocking stool and is felted. Executed by Chaim Gross, ca. mid-1960s. ‘CG’ cast into base.

Condition

-felt on bottom is slightly worn and frayed at edges, overall patina on piece, needs cleaned as crevices are dusty.
