"Hungry Eyes" Charley Harper Limited Edition Serigraph

Item Details

A graphic limited edition serigraph print titled Hungry Eyes by highly regarded Cincinnati wildlife artist Charley Harper (1922 – 2007). A horizontal print published in 1969, depicting a lone impala, unaware of the four pairs of hungry lioness eyes that watch him. Edition number 111 of 500, signed and numbered in pencil to the lower margin. Presented behind brown mat, under glass, in a black composite frame.

‘The family that preys together stays together – but only for a year and a half. That’s how long it takes mama lion to teach her cubs to scout up a meal. Lesson One: approach downwind of the goodies. Lesson Two: sneeze, and you get a swat from the den mother. Steady! The impala is skittish – snap a dry twig now and you blow the banquet. By the way, what’s the den dad doing tonight? What all papa lions with any pride are doing – waiting for the pride to serve the antelope steaks.’ – C. Harper
