Vienna Bronze Bergman Nam Greb Mechanical Erotic Statue

Item Details

A Vienna bronze Franz Xavier Bergmann Nam Greb mechanical, whimsical erotic statue, circa early 1900’s. This piece is a Vienna bronze, also known as Wiener bronzen, cast in the traditional, lost wax technique called, ‘cire perdue’. The piece is cold-painted, referring to the application of several coatings of a dust-like paint that doesn’t require firing and of which the formula and practice have long since been lost. The cold painting was carried out mainly by women working at home; a typical cottage industry of the era. This unusual piece has three lambs laying together on the top. When you flip the top, a naked couple appears as if laying on a bed. It is signed on one end by the artist, ‘Nam Greb.
B’, in a double-handled vase. There are two hearts with arrows on each long end and the base is covered in green felt for protection. This bronze has belonged to the consignor for 50 + years. Please view the website provided for more information.
