Antique Eugene Berninghaus "Hercules" Barber Chair
Item Details
An antique Eugene Berninghaus ‘Hercules’ barber chair. Berninghaus of Cincinnati was the first manufacturer of barber chairs in the U.S. and the first that featured full reclining capability and 360 degree revolution. This fully functional antique is circa early 1900’s and is one of the few ‘Hercules’ models that has cast iron construction (most were wood). It was recently restored with new leather and chrome plating on the chair. It’s hydraulic system cranks the chair upward with a manual lever then releases the chair down. It is very heavy and will require adequate help and equipment for removal from a 1st floor living area, but can be disassembled into four parts fairly easily.
