Item Details
An original oil on canvas figure painting by well-listed Ohio artist James Roy Hopkins (1877 – 1969). The artist famously studied under one of Cincinnati’s Frank Duveneck (1848 – 1919), and went on to fulfill his position as the head of the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 1919. He is famously known for his portrait and figural paintings, this painting of which, is exemplary of his refined hand. This portrait is painted in pastel hues and features a young woman in blue with dark hair and shinning eyes. She is adorned in an elegant 1920s gown, posed against a textured light purple backdrop. She is presented in an ornate applique detailed frame, with scrolled leafs surround. The frame is gilded and has conservation documents attached to the verso. Two exhibition labels are attached to the verso, one from the Cincinnati Museum Association’s Eighteenth Annual Exhibition, and the other from the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, PA. Condition
- the painting is in good condition, however, there is some damage to the edges of the frame. Some chips to the applique edges.
