Vintage English Cutback Saddle by J.A. Barnsby & Sons

A vintage English cutback saddle by J.A. Barnsby & Sons of Walsall, England, circa 1966. This saddle is the ‘Lane Fox’ model, measuring 21’’ from the button to the center of the cantle. The saddle has a 5’’ gullet, measured from button to button on either side of the pommel. The flaps measure approximately 14.5’’ wide, from the stirrup bar to the bottom of the flap is approximately 17’’. Under the skirt on either side of the saddle is a plaque that reads ‘J.A. Barnsby & Sons – Walsall & London – Saddlery for All Nations’. The sweat flap is stamped ‘Lane Fox – Made in England’. Also included are a cotton webbing girth and a pair of stirrup leathers.
Condition
The leather shows some scratches and wear, particularly on the flaps. The buttons have some green residue. The stirrup leathers show wear however they are still in good riding condition, the girth protector is flaking off.
